We’re not ashamed to confess that Blunk Area, at Level Reyes Station, California, has a particular place in our hearts. We’re ardent followers of sculptor JB Blunk, the Blunk Home, his former house and studio in close by Inverness, and Blunk’s daughter Mariah Nelson, who continues to carry her father’s legacy to life through a sequence of cautious tasks and imaginative interventions. Nelson’s ability as mixed curator and editor means she has an intrinsic sensibility on the subject of retaining the flame of her father’s world alight. Legacy inside a household is usually a heavy burden; in Nelson’s palms it’s gentle, enlightening and enlivening.

The present consists of a sequence of work, ceramic sconces and a tablecloth by Stark, along with tin objects by Cappello. These works are impressed by time spent at that everlasting wellspring of inspiration – the Blunk Home – which JB constructed over time by hand in accordance with want, need and intuition, with supplies as they offered themselves within the forest and shorelines round Inverness.

They evoke a way of life with a love for all times that’s unpretentious. Her color world is rooted within the pure hues of the encompassing environs.

He performs with the boundaries of craft and manufacture, elevating base supplies and industrial by-products into objects of on a regular basis use with creative expression. Cappello’s methodology is within the service of methods as a lot as objects, at all times with a charismatic playfulness. There’s a clear thread between his personal oeuvre and that of Blunk.
