Meet Shabnam Tavakol — the artisan and artistic power behind Kismet Olfactive, the Topanga-based perfume studio. Born and raised in California, Shabnam — Farsi for “morning dew” — is the daughter of Iranian-immigrant mother and father who escaped the violent 1979 Revolution in Iran. Weaving this story into the model’s namesake, Kismet — from the Persian qismat, which means “destiny,” or, “what is supposed to be” — interprets the serendipitous moments that make up our lives into wearable scents. Representing customized small-batch formulation and hand-selecting solely the best oils and sustainable uncooked supplies, Kismet is based and features upon a basis of immersive storytelling.
One of many studio’s most beloved creations, Nostalgia, initially debuted as a private perfume and is now obtainable completely as a candle at Shoppe Amber Interiors. Unisex and richly layered, Nostalgia blends leathery, musky, floral, natural, smoky, and spicy notes — a sensory homage to the village of Grasse within the French Alps, the place Shabnam studied the artwork of perfumery.
