Perry’s first public art work in London, Inspiration Lives Right here, 2022, welcomes guests to the concrete advanced at A Home for Artists, illuminating the doorway passage in a lamp-come-monument.
A Home for Artists is an artists’ dwelling house commissioned by Create London and accomplished in 2021, offering versatile dwellings for 12 creatives and their households. Its concrete construction is made up of cubic and triangular kinds and holds each public- and private-facing utilities. Contextualised by the communal house, Perry created the sculpture as an ode to social housing and, commissioned by Create London and funded by Artwork Fund, it’s an emblem of the increasing arts programme in Barking & Dagenham. Referencing the historical past of the close by Becontree Property as a house to wartime heroes and staff from the native Ford manufacturing unit, the lamp’s mild spills from the home windows of a home onto a Ford automobile and Transit van and (constructed from hand-painted Corten metal) is designed to visibly climate over time.
