Inside London’s new M.II retailer: earthy interiors providing a glimpse of ‘the darker facet of Mouki Mou’

Coming into the brand new retail retailer M.II on London’s Chiltern Avenue, you’d be forgiven for pondering you have stumbled right into a fantastically curated walk-in closet. With natural detailing, comfortable, polished wooden and crisp joinery, the shop is a showcase for craft-focused vogue and homeware. Based by Maria Lemos, M.II comes 11 years after the opening of her neighbouring, cult womenswear retailer Mouki Mou, named after her daughter.

Her newest outpost is designed to be an extension of the unique idea, and branches out into clothes for males, ladies and kids, accompanied by an exquisite assortment of homeware and equipment.

Lemos labored intently with inside designer and architect William Russel to remodel the 57.5 sq m house. Following collaborations with manufacturers similar to Alexander McQueen and Christian Louboutin, Russel drew upon Lemos’ Mouki Mou boutique in Athens, and the unique London retailer, to current ‘the darker facet of Mouki Mou’ – a soothing and moody inside Yin in symbiotic distinction to the prevailing boutiques’ gentle and ethereal Yang.

The inside is calm, with earthy tones and natural and domestically sourced supplies. Cork is used for flooring, whereas partitions are plastered in Cornish clay. Crisp, tactile joinery wraps the house. Comprised of Valchromat, a waste wooden fibre, in locations the joinery is lifted with natural dyes, whereas brass-edged mirrors and ‘shell-embedded’ Portland stone full the elegant palette. Ornamental touches embrace the double window show, which showcases floral and botanical preparations by artist Cynthia Fan, and ceramics by Alana Wilson and Jojo Corväiá. All year long the show will likely be changed with a rotation of installations from a variety of artists and artisans.

With a portfolio of recent labels arriving in retailer, Lemos explains how she makes the choice: ‘M.II has been created for women and men to buy collectively. We’re targeted on designers who be happy to make lovely garments that don’t want or want to suit into both the normal vogue cycle or fastened gender boundaries.’ Count on to see items from up-and-coming designers like New Zealand-based Oliver Church; Austrian label Riet, and Parisian sportswear-workwear model Parages. These are joined by cult favourites, together with Excessive Cashmere, Bergabel and Casey Casey.

Equipment and homeware embrace house fragrances by Tennen Studio and The Naxos Apothecary, and glassware by Vogel Studio and Miyo Oyabu, encouraging the temptation to carry just a little little bit of M.II’s moody aptitude into your personal house,
