Loewe has been producing house fragrances since 2020, with Jonathan Anderson (artistic director of the historic Spanish style home since 2013) taking inspiration from the crops rising in his London backyard. This consists of candles, soaps, diffusers and room sprays perfumed with tomato leaves, pea shoots and beetroot (amongst others).
‘Smells set off reminiscences and for me the collection of odor is sort of private,’ Anderson informed Wallpaper*. ‘I bear in mind as a toddler we had a greenhouse and we grew greens in it, so there’s a couple of smells from the gathering that remind me of being a toddler, others that remind me extra of journeys I’ve taken, a bit like olfactory sketches. Smells are fairly grounding in a approach. Half Victorian, botanical backyard, half apothecary, the combo is each scientific and nostalgic.’

Loewe launches ‘Mushroom’ and ‘Roasted Hazelnut’ candles
Now, (February 2024) Loewe has introduced two new additions to the vegetable-scented melange: ‘Mushroom’ and ‘Roasted Hazelnut’. The previous is described as having ‘a wealthy, earthy scent evocative of a portobello mushroom: the Agaricus bisporus fungus that may be discovered rising naturally in grasslands world wide’. The notes are predominantly woody, and unfold over time to disclose patchouli.
The latter ‘has an extra-high-intensity perfume with a woody, nutty aroma evocative of the distinctive perfume of roasted hazelnuts: a culinary delicacy with a distinctively wealthy flavour typically utilized in desserts and confectionary’. With sweeter notes than its fungi counterpart (together with brown sugar) additionally it is spicy and smoky.

As with all Loewe scented candles, they’re crafted in all-natural wax with a cotton wick. They’re contained in stamped and glazed terracotta vessels that may be reused as storage objects for the house after the candle burns down. (Within the case of ’Mushroom’ it’s a green-grey, satin end glaze, and with ’Roasted Hazelnut’, black). Each fragrances additionally are available room spray and candlestick variations, too.
