On what was probably a sunny day in Mallorca in 1964, surrealist artist and sculptor Joan Miró penned a private dedication in Resort de Mar’s golden visitor e book, extolling its structure. The storied lodge, with its boxy brown exterior – which locals nonetheless affectionately name ‘The Chocolate Resort’ – had already captured his coronary heart just a few weeks after its opening.

From his Son Boter studio, Miró had a great view of the lodge: its modernist strains and earthy tones set vividly towards the Mediterranean backdrop. Envisioned by the late industrial designer José Antonio Coderch, the constructing stays a celebrated instance of Mediterranean vernacular structure and sees a design targeted on clear, angular strains and an open format that embraces the Mediterranean’s outdoor-centred way of life. Notably, all 307 rooms face outward, every that includes a non-public terrace shaded by vertical wood slats.

In 2024, ‘The Chocolate Resort’ celebrates 60 years as a timeless vacation spot, cherished for its wealthy historical past, prime location and cultural ties.
