Bear in mind show cupboards? These off-limits enclosed cabinets that displayed treasured possessions for all to see? Maybe there was one in your grandma or auntie’s dwelling, and to the touch one thing earlier than you have been of the right age invited strict reprimand. Jerusalem-based Palestinian glass artist Lameice Abu Aker is all-too-familiar with this expertise. The truth is, her grandmother’s dwelling and the nice and cozy reminiscences of household gatherings have impressed her collections of swirling, candy-coloured home objects.

‘There was an emotional drive for me to create these items and I feel the types simply adopted,’ Abu Aker says.

Her firm, Decorative by Lameice, was created throughout the Covid-19 pandemic. Abu Aker had been engaged on a mission about Palestinian heritage and id and found the work of glassmaker households who’ve practiced the craft for generations. Glassblowing is believed to have originated within the area and has been practiced for millennia, leading to beads, glassware and jugs generally offered in native markets.
