Methods to put on black in summer season

Widespread knowledge says that carrying black in summer season is a sartorial no-go, the light-and-heat absorbing hue a recipe for torrid and uncomfortable afternoons within the solar. Although, as the numerous year-round aficionados of the color will attest, such is black’s timelessness – it’s arguably the shade most synonymous with type and style – that even in relation to the summer season months, it’s by no means too scorching to put on black.

With it, guidelines for embracing black within the warmth of summer season: preserve layers diaphanous and fluid, just like the sinuous line of Rick Owen’s gently ruched uneven night robe, or Givenchy’s floating, sheer organza layers. On the subject of overlaying up, much less is extra: search for cutaway silhouettes (like Louis Vuitton’s open-back shirt) and plunging necklines (à la Alexandre Vauthier), or go for black swimwear, arguably the best approach to put on black in summer season (our selection: a basic black bikini from Chanel). As is a straightforward black sweater within the lightest of cashmere – like that from Italian knitwear producer Luca Faloni – made for the onset of coolness on a summer season night (or overly air-conditioned lodge rooms and airline cabins).

And, in relation to the night, black stays the selection for taking to the resort bar in dramatic type, whether or not in a richly adorned gown from Prada – its glimmering floor replete with metallic eyelets for an elegant tackle air flow – or a body-clinging body-suit from British designer Supriya Lele, whose S/S 2024 assortment included dissolving mini clothes and swimwear reduce within the designer’s gently subversive type.
