Positioned in Sicily, within the province of Syracuse, the patio home absolutely occupies the buildable space of the plot: a slim strip of land stretching towards the ocean and ending on a cliff. The venture develops longitudinally, from the entry highway to the ocean, and is conceived as an introverted oasis that opens towards the seascape via the dwelling space.
The villa is outlined by a sequence of constantly designed partitions that construction and manage the inside and exterior areas, producing alongside its perimeter 5 impartial rooms and a dwelling space dealing with the ocean. Emphasizing the non-public nature of the venture are the patios, marked by full-height partitions that set the rhythm of the areas. Every bed room overlooks a personal patio that filters pure gentle and ensures the privateness wanted within the extra intimate areas.
An uncovered inner pathway serves as a distribution axis, independently connecting the rooms and establishing a steady relationship between the sleeping space and the dwelling space. This walkway, conceived as a small alley, leads from the primary entrance to the ocean, weaving between the rooms in an alternation of compressed and expanded areas.
From this open-air promenade, one accesses the dwelling space, which opens to the ocean via massive sliding home windows that disappear into the partitions. The kitchen, linked to the lounge, receives pure gentle from an extra patio, inside which a staircase results in the higher terrace, providing panoramic views of the encompassing panorama.
From above, the design of the partitions reveals the labyrinthine play of the ground plan, the place solids and voids, of their narrowing and increasing, outline the openings towards the skin. All outside inexperienced areas are conceived as a spontaneous and native panorama, that includes two terraces made from Noto stone. Constructed dry, following custom, these outline the outside areas and the pool space, which is clad in lava stone.
The venture seems as an introverted, porous, and mysterious structure that doesn’t reveal its spatial selection from the skin. The textured earth-toned partitions, the warm-toned concrete flooring, and the absence of glass on the façade recall the simplicity of vernacular structure and tie the constructing intently to the encompassing panorama.
