Peter Barber is the Soane Medal 2022 winner

The Soane Medal 2022 winner has been introduced – and it is revered London-based architect Peter Barber. The founding father of Peter Barber Architects is to obtain the coveted accolade of Sir John Soane’s Museum immediately, throughout a ceremony together with the architect giving the annual – and fifth – Soane Medal Lecture. Barber’s work in housing and concrete planning is being recognised for its sleek stability of high-quality design, affordability and performance.

‘I’m so thrilled to have been awarded this yr’s Soane Medal. To be a part of such an illustrious group of winners was each a stunning shock and an honour. Soane was an ingenious architect, and I hope that we proceed to construct on his legacy of experimenting with classical concepts and types. At a time of such uncertainty, it’s actually nice to see social housing centre stage,’ says Barber.

This isn’t the primary award Barber has obtained for his revolutionary method to city housing. The architect has accepted a lifetime achievement award from the Architects’ Journal and the RIBA Neave Brown Award for Housing 2021, and was additionally awarded an OBE for providers to structure final yr and elected as a Royal Academician in January 2022.
