As a part of the January 2023 difficulty of Wallpaper* – a celebration of the rising stars shaking up the artistic industries – we travelled to Leipzig to seize the Resort 2023 collections with rising German photographer Sophie Meuresch on the metropolis’s Academy of High-quality Arts, one of many oldest artwork faculties within the nation.

Recognized for her exact and restrained portraits, Meureusch – herself a graduate of Academy of High-quality Arts Leipzig – was shortlisted for the 2022 Dior Images Award for Younger Abilities this previous July. Themed ‘Face-to-Face’ and asking contributors to straight deal with their topic via the digicam lens, Meureusch’s entry captured her friends towards oftentimes sparse backdrops. The ensuing pictures had been displayed as a part of the Arles Photograph Pageant at Luma Arles, with many of the contributors latest graduates of worldwide artwork establishments.
This mode of seeing informs the sequence of pictures in Wallpaper* January 2023, whereby Resort 2023’s standout items – amongst them a studded leather-based waistcoat and sequin-embellished denims from Gucci, vivid yellow shearling boots from Loewe, and JW Anderson’s crystal-covered wedge ‘Bumper’ sandals – are captured by Meureusch on three of her mates in a set of arresting portraits, styled by Wallpaper* vogue director Jason Hughes.
