Edinburgh in March is a complicated place. Drawn by the promise of a spring staycation – of daffodil-strewn strolls throughout the Meadows, maybe – we stepped out of Haymarket Station right into a downpour that gave approach to pale daylight earlier than culminating in a spectacular rainbow. This meteorological indecision set the tone for the weekend.

It’s exactly this mercurial high quality that makes The Hoxton really feel so well-placed within the metropolis. Opened final June because the model’s first Scottish tackle (it’s the first UK property exterior of London, the place there are at the moment 4 outposts), the lodge appears designed to soak up and replicate Edinburgh’s shifting moods.

Who’s behind the design?

Interiors by AIME Studios (the in-house studio of the Hoxton’s mother or father firm Ennismore) are versatile sufficient to accommodate all seasons: in colder months, heavy jacquards, velvet headboards and ornate cornicing create a cocooning heat. Come summer season, the identical areas really feel reworked by the sunshine that floods in from huge sash home windows, taking part in off jewel tones and graphic patterns.

You enter the lodge to a pattern-rich foyer anchored by a pastel mural from artist Verity Woolley. Raffia detailing, darkish timber parquet and classic Murano glass usher you into the Foyer Bar – a reinterpretation of a traditional taproom, wrapped in perforated brass with peach-toned tiles. Unique pillars sit alongside mid-century furnishings; geometric textiles meet unlacquered brass; and, on the centre of the house, an azure-tiled chimney breast is adorned with a tufted paintings by native artist Jasmine Linington.
