Introduced at this time (18 April), the Sony World Pictures Awards 2024 explores the most recent and best worldwide artists and tendencies in its discipline. This 12 months’s collection of nominees for the Structure & Design class spans ten abilities from as far afield as Canada, Malaysia and Finland. The winner, Eire’s Siobhán Doran, scooped the highest gong together with her collection Sala Mayor (Dwelling Room).

Sony World Pictures Awards 2024: the winner and shortlist

The Structure & Design class winner’s work focuses on the majestic documentation of historic mansions and is a part of a ebook mission by Doran, titled Homes that Sugar Constructed: An Intimate Portrait of Philippine Ancestral Properties.

‘I largely set about photographing the homes towards a spoken “backdrop”, as my colleague interviewed the proprietor or custodian, however typically labored in full silence. The sala mayor (principal front room) sometimes showcases the character of the structure and the life-style of the folks, but additionally leaves room for the viewer’s interpretation of those distinctive residences,’ wrote the artist.

Notable entries among the many finalists are Germany’s Albrecht Voss’ collection Enlighten, which ‘presents trendy alpine structure as surreal man-made sculptures’; and Malaysia’s Nick Ng’ Blue Boy, a visible exploration of a 1962, seven-floor residential haven within the coronary heart of Kuala Lumpur, designed by the structure agency TY Lee and Sons.
