‘There’s a protracted custom of the skyscraper and the skyline in furnishings design,’ says Ganz. He cites references comparable to Paul T Frankl’s ‘Skyscraper’ bookshelves from the Nineteen Twenties, which took the skyscraper as a logo of American modernity; and Gaetano Pesce’s iconic ‘Tramonto a New York’ sofa, impressed by Eighties Gotham. ‘On condition that USM’s origin is so immediately related to structure, it made sense to me to proceed this legacy. And the tower is an ideal image of New York, the place the one place to construct is up.’
