Wendell Citadel’s useful, biomorphic designs go on show at Ladbroke Corridor

Settling in properly at its Ladbroke Corridor location, Carpenters Workshop Gallery presents ‘Suspended Disbelief’ the newest showcase on the late pioneering sculptor and designer Wendell Citadel (1932 – 2018). 

The Kansas born designer experimented with industrial design, sculpture and woodwork earlier than discovering his trademark in uniting sculptural design with performance, which gave him his typically credited title because the ‘founding father of the American Artwork furnishings motion’.

The retrospective focuses on Citadel’s later woodwork from 2011 to 2015, with sculptural furnishings designs impressed by natural kinds and the pure world, signalling a return to his signature biomorphic type from the Sixties and Nineteen Seventies.
