Patricia Urquiola’s newest collaboration with Kvadrat is the world’s first recycled upholstery textile

Patricia Urquiola and Kvadrat have teamed as much as launch the world’s first upholstery textile made completely of recycled supplies. 

Working with ocean-bound plastic waste, the Milanese designer and Danish textile authority have created Sport, in partnership with #tide, a Swiss firm specialising in growing supplies from ocean-bound plastic waste. The textile is product of post-consumer plastic collected inside 10km from the shoreline of Thailand, as a part of #tide’s dedication to stop the supplies from reaching the oceans.

‘[With Kvadrat], we share the identical philosophy that the best requirements in design and supplies might be mixed with vital sustainable and moral actions,’ says #tide co-founder Marc Krebs. ‘[We both] need to create a much-needed social and environmental impression that protects the oceans and helps coastal and island communities of their struggle in opposition to plastic air pollution out of 100 per cent ocean-bound plastic waste.’

Because the title suggests, the gathering is impressed by sportswear and nods to a high-tech aesthetic, with delicate tactile patterns enriching the floor and a color palette outlined by vibrant shades of purple, inexperienced and blue in addition to a collection of neutrals that vary from greys to taupe. Every textile is outlined by a two-tone contrasting composition, enhancing the design’s three dimensional impact. ‘The colors for Sport are divided into “salt and pepper” monochrome nuances, which illuminate the textile’s high-tech graphic character, and stable shades which fade its texture away,’ explains Urquiola.
